Ye Olde BIODIESEL

Waste Oil Processing (using old processor with water washing)

Processing waste oil is the same with processing fresh oil with the addition of pre-processing steps. The oil is filtered to remove food particles. It is then dried to remove moisture (that will kill the reaction) and titrated to determine the amount of catalyst to be used in addition to the standard 3.5 grams. You can find more info at Journy To Forever, http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html

1. Dry filtered waste oil by heating to 60 degrees celcius and settle overnight and use only the upper 90% of the oil.

Or, flash evaporate water from the oil above 100 degress celcius.Or use your glycerine cocktail to pre-treat your oil.http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html#glycwash.

2. Take a small sample of oil and titrate to light pink color. Titiration should be done with every batch of oil. You can find a simple titration procedure at Journy To Forever. http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make2.html#measure.

3. Measure the appropriate amount of alcohol based on the amout of dry oil. Refer to the basic recipe. http://easybiodiesel.webs.com/basicprocedure.htm

4. Add the corresponding amout of catalyst based on titration result.

5. Transfer dried oil to processor. (My father helps me make biodiesel.)

This is my 12-foot 1000L stainless steel processor.

6. Pump the methoxide mixture into the processor and circulate for 2 hours. (Processing time is dependent on amount and pump capacity.)

7. Settle overnignt, draw the glycerine layer from the bottom of the processor, pump in WATER to wash the biodiesel, let the water setlle for aleast an hour, wash again withWATER two more times.Tranfer the biodiesel to settling containers to dry or use an immersion heater to speed up drying.
