Ye Olde BIODIESEL

1. Measure oil.

 

2. Measure alcohol.

 

3. Measure catalyst into alcohol and dissolve.

 

4. Pour alcohol-catalyst mixture into oil.

 

5. Fire up the magnetic stirrer/hotplate to react for atleast 1 hour.

 

After a few minutes of mixing, you'll observe a cloudy mixture.

 

After an hour of mixing, you'll observe a clear but darker solution of biodiesel and glycerine.

 

6. Transfer to a separatory funnel.

 

 7. Let the dark colored glycerine settle.

 

8. Remove glycerine layer.

9. Add water, a third of the biodiesel volume.

 

10. Swirl funnel to wash.

 

 11.Let the water settle underneath then remove.

 

12. Wash 3 times then dry.
